Jubal's Daughters

The name Jubal comes from the Bible, Genesis 4:22 where it explains that one of the most revered professions was that of a musician and that "the father of all those who play flute and harp" was Jubal.

Averil spence-Clarke and Anita Leschied met in 1989 in Windsor when both were looking for musical opportunities outside of symphonic work.

Averil who was born in Jamaica, received her Bachelor of Music, Honours Performance from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. She has performed extensively across Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. Her husband's career brought her to Windsor, where Anita, a certified harp therapist was raising her family and actively performing in Windsor and Detroit. Born in Michigan and a graduate of Wayne State University in Sociology, Anita had numerous opportunites to play in university, youth and community orchestras. She also performed with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra for 12 years.

Both Averil and Anita feel their music is an expression of their spiritual faith and often share their joy of playing with school groups and students, encouraging youngsters to pursue their training in all aspects of music.

Their music transcends to all ages and all faiths as the sound of flute and harp together are as natural as water cascading over rocks. The sound is ancient, ethereal, soothing and uplifting. Their styles range from Classical to Oriental, Celtic to Jazz, Popular to Sacred with some World Music for additional variety. A great joy to this ensemble is when others join them in their performances: singers, dancers, instrumentalists, storytellers and more.

Both of these musicians give of their talents through teaching and are ensuring that there will be more Jubal's daughters or sons in the future.
